Children's Martial Arts Instruction
Wee Warriors (Children's Martial Arts, Lehigh Valley)

 What is a Warrior?

Many people shy away from the term "warrior" thinking it is only about being combative.
Although there is without question a self protection aspect associated with this term, we
at Lehigh Valley Bujinkan Dojo use the word to depict a significantly higher ideal, far
beyond and more profound than the combative way associated with perhaps a "soldier."
The person who aspires to develop to the realm of a Warrior is a person of
perseverance, compassion, self restraint and Truth. It is one who has tremendous moral
courage and sincerity even in the face of the most intimidating of life's negative forces. A
Warrior exercises discipline, cares for his or her body, seeks knowledge and listens with
keen awareness to the voice of righteousness within him/herself. The Warrior is the
guardian of the peaceful world
that we want our children to live in.

What is the Wee Warriors Program?

The Wee Warriors Program is a new opportunity for children ages 3-5 years old to
learn exciting and enjoyable martial arts skills here in the Lehigh Valley. Classes a
re
currently being developed and scheduled to be launched in early January 2012 at the
Lower Macungie Community Center.

At least 5 years of thought, discussion and planning have gone into this program to
make it unique, practical, realistic, worthwhile (for the student) and most of all, FUN.
Because of the age group, classes are high energy, constantly changing and designed
to keep the child's interest for the one hour duration. The martial arts content of the
class is derived from beginning aspects of the Bujinkan Martial Arts (visit the "About Us"
and "Curriculum" pages of this website for more info) but focusing mainly on the very
basics of movement and self protection. Skills taught include (but are not limited to):

  • Four Directional Rolling (tumbling)
  • 6 Directional Leaping
  • Proper Breakfalls - how to fall with control and without injury
  • Punching Fundamentals
  • Kicking Fundamentals
  • Developing an understanding of timing, distance and balance
  • How to recognize and respond to a dangerous situation
  • What to do if approached by a "stranger"
  • Awareness development and practical applications

In addition to developing physical capabilities, the program will also cultivate listening,
observation and patience skills as well as focusing on increasing courage and
confidence. The environment will be strictly cooperative and NON competitive so as to
emphasize the importance of helping one another grow and progress.

It is important to note that clearly every child has their own strengths and weaknesses
and learns different skills at varying rates. Our goal is to help our precious little ones use
the wonderful and boundless energies they possess to a very constructive and spirit
developing end whether they spend one season with us or follow the path of the martial
arts throughout their lives...as we have.
Children are the future of our world and our Race - the Human
Race. The challenges of our times - from terrorism and economic problems, increase
of crime and child abductions to environmental problems - have resulted in a need
for our children to be prepared on many levels for the road ahead. Even as adults
many have a sense of "entitlement" - that someone should just take care of them and
make sure the danger doesn't reach them. When it does, the government or someone
else gets blamed. We at the Lehigh Valley Bujinkan believe that we are
accountable
for our actions and/or lack of action. We believe in teaching our children how to
protect themselves and become more aware of their surroundings, the environment
and the needs of our Earth Mother. Therein lies the way to TRUE safety and peace of
mind...
